Vietnam vows to protect denouncers of corruption

Currently, regulations sometimes fail to ensure full protection of denouncers, disheartening corruption fighters.
The Vietnamese leadership has once again affirmed that it will protect anyone who fights against wrongdoings in the political system.

Under a directive issued by Politburo, the country’s most powerful body, people who disclose, denounce, and fight against corruption, squandering, and mismanagement would be strongly protected. 

Accordingly, head of the state bodies which the denouncers work for would be disciplined if he/she fails to protect his/her staff. 

The document stated that protecting denouncers is responsibility of the whole society. 

For better results, the Politburo required the cooperation between the Party’s Central Inspection Committee and the Party’s Central Commission for Internal Affairs. Meanwhile, the government’s agencies were asked to boost the enforcement of Law on Denunciation, which was adopted in 2018.  

Currently, regulations sometimes fail to ensure full protection of denouncers, disheartening corruption fighters. Worse, not a few denouncers were retaliated. 

According to a report in 2018 by the National Assembly, complaint cases rose 11.8% on year with 61.8% relating to land disputes. The denunciations mostly focus on land issues including site clearance and compensation, influence peddling, covering up, and mismanagement.
