Deputy Ambassador of the UK to Vietnam Marcus Winsley assessed the bilateral ties at the 4th Congress of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Organization – Hanoi for tenure 2022-2027 on August 20.

Winsley highlighted recent high-ranking delegation exchanges between the two sides, as well as close partnerships in the fields of education, climate change, economy, investment, and immigration, which have had positive impacts on taking bilateral relations to a new height.

This is particularly important as both countries are scheduled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations on 2023, he said.

A report at the Congress noted the Vietnam-UK Friendship Organization in the past term (2017-2022) had actively contributed to bilateral friendship and understanding between the two countries amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

These included the organization of conferences on studying in the UK; English singing contests; or receiving English volunteers coming to Vietnam to teach English.

For 2022-2027, the focus would be to maintain and foster the close partnership with the UK-Vietnam Friendship Organization, the UK Embassy, the British Council, and the Britsh expat community in Hanoi, strengthen activities to promote peace, solidarity, and friendship with a focus on training and education.

Chairwoman of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HAUFO) Nguyen Lan Huong called for the organization to be active in raising public awareness of UK-Vietnam relations, especially activities to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

In addition, Huong noted the close partnership with UK organizations and agencies, including the UK Embassy and the British Council, would help strengthen friendship and mutual understanding and ensure greater efficiency in cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education, and tourism.
