Vietnam to use e-passports in 2011

The Hanoitimes -   The Ministry of Public Security will kick off the project to produce and issue e-passports in 2011.

The Hanoitimes -   The Ministry of Public Security will kick off the project to produce and issue e-passports in 2011.

 

 There will be o­nly o­ne centre based at the Ministry of Public Security to issue national digital signatures. The Ministry of Finance and related agencies will set the fees for e-passports.

 

The e-passport will use chipset technology to prevent forged passports. Personal information will be saved in the chipset.

 

Vietnam’s goal is to issue 100 percent e-passports by 2015. By that time, all government agencies will supply digital signature certification services.

 

Around 45 countries in the world are now using e-passports.
