The Hanoitimes -Vietnam will host the seventh International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) in Hanoi in December, the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) has announced.

The exhibition will be jointly organized by the Vietnam Union of Scientific and Technological Associations and the ministries of Science and Technology, Education and Training, Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Information and Communications.

It is expected to attract the participation of about 1,500 young scientists, aged between 6 and 19, from 30-40 countries.

Participants are required to present their inventions in one of five fields: learning aids; software; toys; environment protection and economic development; and energy saving.

Among the most important requirements is that products or projects made for the event meet set creativity criteria and be applicable in practice as well.

Candidates should send their products, models or projects to the VIFOTEC office at 53 Nguyen Du Street, Hanoi, at least three months before the exhibition opens in December.

Special prizes will be awarded to the best exhibits.

Organizers hope that the event will encourage Vietnamese youth to engage in scientific and technological creations.

The event is also one of many activities being held to welcome the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has nominated his deputy Nguyen Thien Nhan as the honorary president of the national steering council for the seventh IEYI.

On February 25, Deputy PM Nhan chaired a meeting of the council to discuss preparations for the event.

The event is estimated to cost nearly VND8 billion (US$421,000), of which about 3.76 billion ($198 million) will be covered by the State budget and the rest sponsored by economic groups and corporations.
