Vietnam strives for sport without doping
10:19, 2014/02/26
Representatives from both domestic and international anti-doping organisations have agreed to build sport without drugs and enhance the solidarity and friendship in sports between regional countries.
The unanimity was reached at the Southeast Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (SEA RADO) Executive Committee’s annual meeting in Hanoi on February 25, with the participation of representatives from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and regional anti-doping organisations.

In opening the event, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Lam Quang Thanh reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to abiding by global anti - doping rules against doping in sport in all its forms. Vietnam became a WADA member in 2004.

Thanh, who is also Vice President of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, said the country established a National Centre for Anti-Doping & Sports Medicine in 2012, with a view to preventing and controlling the use of banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Delegates at the event learnt from the experience in conducting anti-doping activities of nations in the region last year including those at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar. They also discussed the draft 2015 World Anti-Doping Code.

They are timetabled to take part in a refresher course on managing the results of doping tests on February 26 and 27.
