Vietnam is willing to share its experience in developing nuclear electricity with Singapore, said Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh.

During his working session with an inter-ministerial delegation of the Singaporean Government in Hanoi on April 22, Thanh said Vietnam is comprehensively implementing a number of programmes to prepare for its nuclear electricity development plan.
The country also strictly abides by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations and applies advanced technology in the field.
According to Thanh, Vietnam has paid attention to developing atomic energy for peaceful purposes since the 1960s. The sector actively contributes to the country’s socio-economic development.
However, he noted that Vietnam is also facing difficulties and challenges, especially in human resources development serving the sector.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Department of Nuclear Radiation Safety under the Ministry of Science and Technology Can Van Minh stressed the need to enhance international cooperation in developing nuclear electricity as well as the application of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
He also shared information concerning Vietnam’s research and geological surveys for building nuclear electricity plants, and the building of scenarios in response to nuclear electricity incidents in line with international experience.
Peter Tan Hai Chuan from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined the significance of nuclear energy sources in the development of any country, saying it is a necessary component of future progress.
He hoped through the visit, Singaporean delegates would learn from Vietnam’s experience in the field.
