Vietnam promotes nuclear development master plan

Vietnam will continue close work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and with other countries, on the implementation of its plan for comprehensively developing a nuclear power infrastructure system between 2016- 2030.

Hoang Anh Tuan, General Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Agency (VAEA) made the affirmation at a conference in the northern province of Ninh Binh on January 15, held to review the country’s achievements over the last decade in implementing its master plan on atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
During his speech, Tuan underlined the need for high-level training of human resources, who will be serving nuclear power development.
As of October 2015, a total of 323 Vietnamese students had been sent to Russia to study numerous subjects related to nuclear power. The country also sent delegations abroad on field study or short-term courses as part of its cooperation framework with the IAEA and the European Union as well as countries with a developed nuclear energy industry such as Japan and France.
Tuan also briefed participants on Vietnam’s infrastructure preparations for nuclear power development, especially nuclear power plant projects planned for central Ninh Thuan province.
Deputy Director of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power projects management board Phan Minh Tuan, gave an overall introduction to the projects, stressing safety as the key issue.
