Vietnam parliament wraps up month-long plenum, passing many laws

Notably, the parliament adopted the revised Law on Anti-corruption without regulations on handling state officials’ unclear additional assets despite this issue had caught public interest.
The 6th session of the Vietnamese 14th National Assembly (NA), the country's highest legislative body, was wrapped on November 20 after a month with dozens of laws ratified and discussed.

During the semi-annual gathering, deputies passed a resolution and nine laws, and discussed six draft laws. 

The adopted documents include the revised Law on Anti-corruption, Law on Pubic Security (amended), Law on Amnesty (revised), Law on Tertiary Education (supplemented), Law on Cultivation, Law on Coast Guards, Law on State Secret Protection, Law on Planning (supplemented), and Law on Husbandry.

Notably, the parliament unanimously gave the passage to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), making Vietnam the seventh among the 11 signatory nations to approve the agreement, which is due to take effect on December 30. 

Documents put for discussions are inclusive of the Law on Education (revised), Law on Architecture, Law on Tax Management (amended), Law on Criminal Judgment Execution (supplemented), Law on Public Procurement (revised), and Law on Preventing and Combating Harmful Effects of Alcohol and Beer. 

Notably, the NA adopted the revised Law on Anti-corruption without regulations on handling state officials’ unclear additional assets although this issue had caught public interest. The law, which was passed in 2005, has been amended four times.
