Russia erects statue in honor of Vietnamese international volunteers

A statue of three Vietnamese soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) was unveiled in Moscow, Russia, on August 12. Created by sculptor Alexey Chebanenko, it depicts three Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, Ly Nam Thanh, Ly Anh Tao, and Ly Thuc Chat, in Soviet Red Army uniforms, guarding the defensive line of the Russian capital. The Vietnamese delegation, led by Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang, attended the monument's inauguration.

Reunification Day parade to be held in HCMC

Some 11,200 police and military officers are expected to take part in a parade to mark the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975), a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City heard on August 12.

Hue Ao Dai recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage

The knowledge of sewing and wearing Hue Ao dai was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage on August 12. As a part of Hue culture, the ao dai symbolizes the romantic soul and graceful beauty of the local people and has become an indispensable item for Hue women. Hue ao dai has become a unique tourism product, leaving a good impression on domestic and foreign tourists.

AI4VN 2024 to discuss generative AI

Four workshops on generative AI, part of Vietnam AI Day (AI4VN 2024), will be held on August 23 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi with various AI topics, such as international cooperation to ensure security with artificial intelligence, AI applications in manufacturing and business management, AI infrastructure investment, and AI applications in healthcare.

With the theme "Unlock the power of Generative AI", AI4VN 2024 aims to provide an overview of the state of AI development. The event was held for the first time in 2018 by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Xip Xi Festival of White Thai recognized as national intangible cultural heritage

The Xip Xi Festival of the White Thai ethnic minority, celebrated annually on the 14th day of the 7th lunar month in the leisure time before the fall harvest, has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage.

The Xip Xi is an opportunity to thank the deities and land genies for providing protection, peaceful life and bountiful harvest.

Supply of vaccines and medical equipment guaranteed: Ministry of Health

Vietnam's Ministry of Health has responded to national constituents that it has taken measures to ensure adequate supplies of vaccines and medical equipment. The ministry has also instructed local authorities to proactively carry out vaccination activities.

Localities have been asked to prevent and control epidemics, especially dengue fever, and to conduct campaigns to kill mosquito larvae by spraying chemicals in high-risk areas.

Visa free travel suspended at Ban Gioc - Duc Thien Waterfalls

The temporary suspension of visa-free travel at Ban Gioc - Detian Waterfalls on the Vietnam - China border has been announced from August 11 until further notice. The reason given was an incident at a scenic spot on the Chinese side.

Tourists are advised not to register for cross-border tours at this time. Visa-free travel between Vietnam and China at the Ban Gioc - Detian Waterfalls has been piloted since September 15, 2023.
