The Berlin conference brings together key stakeholders in the global energy transition.

Vietnam has approved the latest roadmap for its electricity and energy markets, which highlights the participation of independent suppliers and producers, consumer demand and orientation towards the development of sustainable energy efficiency, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An told the online dialogue held in Berlin.

Speaking at the 7th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) opened on March 16, An emphasized that Vietnam’s power structure prioritizes renewable energy sources to supply to the national power system as well as the application of advanced technology in order to meet the needs of distribution, operation and management of the system.

At the virtual two-day dialogue entitled “Energiewende - Towards Climate Neutrality”, ministers and high-level delegations from more than 50 countries focused on discussing about strategies for the intelligent transformation of energy systems around the world with a view to continuing to pursue the energy transition with all due resolve.

Making a speech at the opening ceremony, the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that the energy transition must succeed in order for the planet to have a future. Support for this has never been greater around the world. The US is back on board in the area of climate policy. China, South Korea and Japan have also committed to achieving climate neutrality.

“We must seize this momentum. With the energy transition and the end of the fossil fuel era, which is drawing nearer, the world will change dramatically in the coming decades. We must adapt to this situation. New dynamics will emerge that will also give rise to tensions,” Maas said. “That is why we need a forward-looking external energy policy that can promote cooperation while preventing conflicts.”

The energy transition and climate protection, if countries approach them intelligently, do not stand in the way of prosperity or the competitiveness of economies. On the contrary, they have the poetical to be a driver of innovation and sustainable growth, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier said.

At the event, the German Economic Affairs Minister Peter Altmaier, the US Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry, the Canadian Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan, the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and the EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson sound out opportunities for a new transatlantic cooperative partnership in the energy transition in a joint panel.

Since 2015, the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue has become a global forum for high-level policymakers, industry, science and civil society on ideas about a safe, affordable and environmentally responsible global energy transition.

It is hosted by the German Federal Government and co-organized with the German Renewable Energy Federation, the German Solar Industry association, the German Energy Agency and the consultancy firm eclareon.
