Vietnam hosts first international lantern competition

The Ocean - Oriental Light Fest 2025 is a fascinating destination for tourists and cultural enthusiasts during the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations.

For the first time, a dazzling international lantern festival called the Ocean - Oriental Light Fest" is held in the periphery of Hanoi and runs until March 16.

The event brings together artisans from China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam to showcase their remarkable craftsmanship. Sixteen competing teams have unveiled 30 magnificent lantern displays, each reflecting their countries' rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions.

The festival was kicked off on January 18 with the unveiling of the lantern masterpiece "Sacred Soul of Vietnam" by the Hoi An Craft Team, the winner of the competition. The work of 70 meters long and 20 meters wide, which depicts a miniature of Hoi An Ancient Town, is a breathtaking highlight for festival-goers.

As one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year, the Ocean - Oriental Light Fest offers a dynamic combination of entertainment and cultural experiences, making it an unmissable stop on the global tourism map. It also reinforces Vietnam's growing reputation as a host of world-class cultural events.

The festival is especially enchanting at night, when lanterns illuminate the space, creating a romantic, otherworldly atmosphere.
The grand welcoming gate invites both residents and visitors, setting the mood for the celebrations.
 The young festival-goers are immersed in the magic of the event.
 Among other standout pieces, "The Return of King Lac Long Quan" lantern, depicts the legendary first king of Vietnam and wins an encouragement award. 
 Meanwhile, the display from Chinese team brings different scene
 The Lucky God (Qilin) lantern, created by South Korean artist Seo Deok Hwan.
 The "Long Phuong Sum Vay" or Dragon and Phoenix Reunion Lantern from Tuyen Quang Province, Vietnam wins the third prize of the competition. 
This enchanting atmosphere promises to create an unforgettable experience for those visiting.
