Anh Kiet 15:22, 2018/12/17
Vietnam has gained comprehensive development achievements acknowledged by the international community such as fulfilling many of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ahead of time.
The Vietnamese government strives for rapid but sustainable development and, if having to choose, priority should be given to sustainability, specifically environmental protection and social security.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam made the statement at the conference "National Assembly and the goals of sustainable development" on December 17 in Da Nang city.

Vietnam always sets sustainable development as both a requirement and an objective. In implementing Doi Moi, Vietnam has gained comprehensive development achievements acknowledged by the international community such as fulfilling many of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ahead of time, making enormous changes in poverty reduction and improving the spiritual life of the, Dam added.

He said that the Vietnamese government has issued the National Action Plan to implement the UN Agenda 2030 transposing 150/169 specific objectives of the SDGs,  and which places the citizen as both the actor and the beneficiary.

Despite emphasizing sustainable development as the best option, the deputy PM said that this poses many challenges to all countries, especially for developing countries like Vietnam.

He also emphasized the need to promote international cooperation on sustainable development, especially in linking technical assistance, sharing experience, monitoring, and evaluating in line with international standards for sustainable development goals.
