Vietnam expects to receive 10 million foreign visitors in 2016
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the number of international visitors to Vietnam is expected to reach 10 million arrivals in 2016, a landmark for the country.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said in November alone, the country welcomed more than 926,000 foreign travellers, a rise of 14.1% over the previous month and 24.9% over the same period of last year.
In January-November, the number of foreign tourists has surpassed 9 million, representing an increase of 25.4 percent against the same period last year and well surpassed the set yearly target of 8.5 million.
In particular, arrivals by air reached 768,221 arrivals, accounting for 82.9%; by sea: 16,843 passengers, accounting for 1.8%; by road: 141,578 arrivals, accounting for 15.3%.
International visitors from the main have recorded a significant increase, including Hong Kong (up 72.9%), China (53.9%), Korea (39.2), New Zealand (35.4%), Russia (29.1%), Thailand (29.0%), Italy (28.5%), Spain (27.7%), the Netherlands (23.5%), and UK (20.8%).
The total revenue of the tourism sector was over 368,600 billion VND, up 18.6% year on year.
China leads the top ten countries with most tourists to Vietnam with 2.48 million arrivals (a surge of 53.9 percent), followed by the Republic of Korea with 1.38 million (39.2 percent), and Japan, 677,000 (10.5 percent).
The number of UK visitors increased by 20.8 percent to 235,557 in the period. The UK is one of five European countries benefiting from Vietnam’s 15-day visa exemption policy.
The number of local tourists in 2016 has reached 57.7 million and revenue from tourism in 11 months was 368.6 trillion VND (16.6 billion USD), up 18.6 percent from 2015.
With remarkable rise of international visitors in September, October and November, the foreign tourists to Vietnam are predicted to reach a record figure of 1 million arrivals in December and 10 million international visitors this year.
