Vietnam defense minister visits Cambodia for cooperation plans in 2019

The two sides will review the cooperation results made in 2018 and discuss measures for the plans in 2019.
Vietnamese Defense Minister Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich is paying a three-day visit to Cambodia to discuss measures for further cooperation between the two armies and specify cooperation plans in 2019.

The visit on December 27-29 is made at the invitation of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Tea Banh. 

During the visit, the two sides review the cooperation results made in 2018 and discuss measures for the plans in 2019.

On December 28, Prime Minister Hun Sen received Minister Ngo Xuan Lich, who exactly 40 years ago was among the Vietnamese Voluntary soldiers fighting side by side with the Cambodian comrades brothers-in-arms liberalizing Phnom Penh from the genocide regime of Polpot, according to Vietnam's Ambassador to Cambodia Vu Quang Minh.

Over the past years, Vietnam and Cambodia have strengthened military ties via Lich’s visit to Cambodia in June 2016. 

In January 2017, Cambodian Defense Minister Tea Banh paid a three-day visit to Vietnam. 

On October 30, 2018 Lich received Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), in Hanoi. 

Vietnam and Cambodia share a borderline of 1,270 km. The neighboring countries are implementing border demarcation with about 25% remain unfinished.  

Months ago, rumors on Cambodia’s possible permission of foreign military bases in the kingdom have widely spread. But Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen affirmed during his visit to Vietnam earlier this month that the rumors were groundless and the country will not allow a third party to set up military bases in Cambodia that may cause threats to neighboring countries.
