Vietnam boosts scientific and technology cooperation with South Africa

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai paid an official visit to South Africa from 1-5. He met with South African Minister of Science and Technology Grace Nadeli Mandisa Pandor in South Africa’s capital, Pretoria, on August 2.
In the first two days of the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister (PM) met with leaders of Reutech defence industry group and Denel Defense Industry Group.

On August 2, the Vietnamese official met with a representative of the Karan Beef group, Matthew Karan, who presented his company’s capacity in cattle raising and beef processing and its aims for cooperation with Vietnam. Hai asked the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to consider Karan Beef’s proposals on affiliation with Vietnamese businesses. 
At the meeting with South African Minister of Science and Technology Grace Nadeli Mandisa Pandor, PM Hai underlined the significance of science-technology in Vietnam’s economic restructuring and well-being. 
The PM stressed the importance of the memorandum of understanding on science, technology and innovation cooperation signed between the two countries’ ministries of science and technology during his official visit to South Africa, adding the document will lay a foundation for them to collaborate in the field. 
At the meeting, Pandor expressed her admiration for Vietnam’s socio-economic accomplishments in recent years, while presenting some of her country’s scientific and technological strengths such as biotechnology application in health care, agriculture and energy. 
Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai and leaders of the two countries witnessed the signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding on science, technology and innovation cooperation between the two ministries of Science and Technology.
During his stay, Deputy PM Hai also had a meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy and the expatriate community.
During his working visit, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai will arrive in Cape Town, meet the South African President and hold talks with the South African Vice President.
