Vietnam becomes second largest mobile exporter to Peru

Vietnam was the second largest mobile phone exporter to Peru in 2014, according to the Centre for Foreign Commerce (CCEX) under the Lima Chamber of Commerce.

The South American nation last year spent 55 million USD to import mobile phones from Vietnam, an increase of 50 million USD against 2013. Vietnamese-made products now account for 5 percent of Peru’s mobile phone market, ahead of those from the Republic of Korea (3 percent) and Taiwan (1 percent).
Last year, Peru splashed out over 1.1 billion USD to import 12.7 million mobile phones, up 31 percent in terms of value and 23 percent in terms of quantity.
Vietnamese telecom group Viettel officially began its operation in Peru in October 2014 with the launch of its Bitel-branded mobile service. At that time, Bitel was the only mobile service provider offering 3G services with a network that reached 80 percent of Peru’s population.
