Vietnam asks for USAID’s support in governance, e-government

USAID has increased its aid budget in Vietnam by 40% over the last 3 years.
The Vietnamese government has asked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to continue assisting it in institutional reform, state governance and particularly in developing e-government, which is one of the key factors in modernizing administration and providing public services.

Minister - Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung made the request during a meeting with USAID Global Administrator Mark Green in Washington on April 10 (local time). Dung is representing the Vietnamese government to attend the World Bank’s Spring Meetings.
At the meeting, Minister Dung valued the cooperation ties between the Vietnam Government Office and USAID and thanked the agency for implementing effective programs for Vietnam, such as Danang Airport Dioxin Remediation Project, another one which is underway in Bien Hoa Airport, the elaboration of Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), among others.
USAID was also appreciated for having increased its aid budget in Vietnam by 40% over the last 3 years.
The minister believed in the cooperation between two sides will continue through the Country Development Cooperation Strategy in Vietnam for 2020-2024, which is being built by USAID. He also requested the agency to support Vietnam in the process of implementing this strategy.
Mark Green said that the two sides have executed a large number of projects including dealing with post-war consequences such as clearing unexploded ordnance. He also expressed his belief in further bilateral cooperation in other fields.
In the same day, Minister Dung also attended a roundtable meeting on investment policy with Asia Group. At the meeting, representatives from many US businesses such as Google, AIG, Asia Pacific and VISA shared their investment experience in Vietnam and expressed their deligh at improvements in the country’s business environment.
At the meeting, Minister Dung briefed the representatives on Vietnam’s socio-economic situation.
According to the minister, over the past time, the US –Vietnam relationship has developed substantially and the Vietnamese government has created many favorable conditions for US businesses operating in the country.
In order to continue improving investment and business environment, the government focuses on three main factors, which are improving institutional quality and state administration capacity, stabilizing macro-economy towards sustainable growth, and ensuring social security.
