US Sen.John McCain visits Vietnam

US Senators John McCain and Sheldon Whitehouse along with their advisors and assistants are visiting Vietnam from August 7-10, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Hai Binh said on August 7.

The visit aims to discuss issues on bilateral relations and regional situation of mutual concern.

Meanwhile, according to the Washington Post, Vietnam is the first leg of John McCain’s Asian tour.

Neither senator’s office would say what other countries are on the itinerary, just that they are “key strategic allies in the region.”

McCain is a frequent flier on the military jets. And in the past several years, McCain has had at least one constant travel companion: Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, who went with McCain to Vietnam in January 2012.
