UNESCO continues to help Hanoi promote cultural heritage

UNESCO will continue to support Hanoi in the promotion of cultural heritage, said the Assistant Director-General of UNESCO's Africa Department.

UNESCO will strengthen cooperation with Vietnam and Hanoi in particular in preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage.

That's what Firmin Edouard Matoko, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO's Africa Division, said at a meeting on July 5 with Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee.

At the meeting, Firmin Edouard Matoko highly appreciated Vietnam's interest in the UNESCO cooperation and highlighted the outstanding cooperation results between Vietnam and UNESCO over the past time, which have become a model in the world, towards sustainable development stated int the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Matoko acknowledged that UNESCO Office in Hanoi is the most efficient and effective unit in Asia. As Hanoi was awarded the title of City for Peace and became a member of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network, Matoko said that Hanoi is a typical success of Vietnam in UNESCO projects, affirming the effectiveness of UNESCO Hanoi Office.

Vice Chairwoman Vu Thu Ha said that one of Hanoi's priorities is culture which is developed on the basis of promoting the thousand-year tradition of civilization and heroism, absorbing the cultural quintessence of mankind, considering it as an endogenous force, a great spiritual motivation for sustainable development.

At present, Hanoi has many plans to promote the value of cultural heritage, with the immediate goal of making people in the capital and throughout the country better acquainted with the country's heritage, and encouraging international promotion of heritage combined with cultural tourism.

Ha hoped that UNESCO will continue to support Hanoi in projects in the future, and assured that the city will fully implement its commitments to UNESCO.

On this occasion, Ha presented Matoko with the Certificate of Merit in recognition of his contributions to the preservation and promotion of the capital's cultural heritage.
