Experts from the UNDP and the UK will help Vietnam build transparent mechanisms in both state and non-state sectors, improve the rule of law, and better corruption control.
Vietnam is prioritized among six Southeast Asian countries to conduct measures against corruption in non-state sector in a joint program of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Kingdom for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Six countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam will implement the project on promoting fair business environment in ASEAN in 2018-2021 in an economic reform program that receives the UK’s financial support worth GBP1.2 billion (US$1.53 billion).

Experts from the UNDP and the UK said they would help Vietnam build transparent mechanisms in both state and non-state sectors, improve the rule of law, and better corruption control.

Accordingly, the main activities are inclusive of recommending legal modifications relating to non-state sector in Vietnam’s revised Law on Anti-corruption, supporting the institutionalization of anti-corruption index at provincial and ministerial levels, helping build internal management mechanisms and code of conduct in private and state enterprises, amending legal framework on dispute solutions and improving competence of court judges, and boosting transparency in court systems with experience from members in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) bloc.

Vietnam is picked up for the implementation as it scores low in the global rankings in terms of code of conduct and corruption control, and bribery.

The country, which drew a record high of foreign direct development (FDI) in 2017 with US$36 billion, ranked the 69th in Corruption and Code of Conduct category and the 109th in Unofficial Payment and Bribery category in the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s 2017-2018 reports.
