General Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNAT) Nguyen Van Tuan said at a meeting in Hanoi on July 9 that his agency will try its best efforts to create a breakthrough development and fix shortcomings towards a healthy tourism environment.
Speaking at the meeting to celebrate the 56th anniversary of the tourism sector in Hanoi on July 9, VNAT General Director Nguyen Van Tuan said the administration is building programmes and projects to attract more investment in developing tourism products, accommodations and services.
The agency will coordinate with relevant ministries, agencies and localities in controlling the quality of services, addressing issues of public concern and stepping up promotion campaigns, Tuan noted.
The VNAT General Director mentioned recent cases relating Chinese tourists in some key tourist sites such as Nha Trang and Da Nang which had great impact on the image of Vietnam in the eyes of international tourists.
He also affirmed that the VNAT will strictly punish any violations in the field.

Earlier, under the document sent to People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities nationwide on July 6, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has urged localities across the country, especially international tourist destinations, to immediately roll out strict measures to detect, prevent and handle violations of law in the field of tourism.
According to the document, other sectors such as the police, labour and market management agencies should coordinate with the tourism sector to detect any foreigners working illegally as well as traders and service providers receiving payments in foreign currencies or cheating tourists.
Localities are to report the results of the implementation of these measures to the VNAT by August 30 this year.
In the first six months of this year, Vietnam received 4.7 million international visitors, a year-on-year growth of 21.3%.
Especially, the country witnessed a strong growth in the number of tourists from northeastern Asian and ASEAN countries. Those from five Western European countries which enjoy visa exemption including the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain saw impressive growths of between 13.8% and 30.1%.
The number of Chinese tourists to Vietnam increased by an average 5.9% a year in the 2011-2015 period and reached 1.78 million in 2015. In the first half of this year, 1.2 million Chinese nationals travelled to Vietnam, a rise of 47.9% year on year.
