Tourism sector targets to reach 370 trillion VND in revenue in 2016
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism held a conference on January 15 to review performances of the sector in 2015 and deploy tasks in 2016.
At the conference, the leader of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said in 2015, the country’s tourism sector faced many challenges and prolonged drawbacks due to impacts from economic difficulties in the region and around the world.
However, the sector increased the number of foreign tourists to the country in 2015 to 7.9 million, rising slightly by 0.9% compared to 2014.
In particular, the number of tourists from the Republic of Korea increased by 31.3%, surpassing one million arrivals.
The number of domestic tourists in 2015 was 57 million arrivals. The earnings from tourism industry reached nearly 338,000 billion VND, the highest on record.
In 2016, Vietnam strives to receive 8.5 million foreign visitors and 60 million domestic tourists, earning a total of 370,000 billion VND in revenue.
On the occasion, the Vietnam Administration of Tourism was presented the Guide to Vietnam Tourism Occupational Standards (VTOS) - 2013 version bilingual document, funded by the European Union (EU).
This latest bilingual document was produced by the EU-funded: Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Programme.
The document is designed for the training activities of small and medium enterprises, hotels, travel companies, schools and can be downloaded at the website http://vtos.esrt.vn.
During the meeting, the Vietnam Administration of Tourism also announced 10 outstanding tourism events in 2015.
