Tourism promotion efforts result optimistic growth
According to latest statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Vietnam received 732,740 foreign arrivals in November, increasing by 12.9% over last month and 20.4% against the same period last year.
The VNAT said incentives and overseas tourism promotion campaigns have contributed significantly to reach growing number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in the recent months.
Vietnam has welcomed more than 7 million foreign tourists so far this year, marking a slight decrease of 2% from a year earlier.
In January-November, the highest growth of 35.5% was seen in the number of Hong Kong tourists, followed by those from the Republic of Korea, 30.5%, Singapore-16.5% and China’s Taiwan-12%.
More tourists from the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain have chosen their holidays in Vietnam as a result of the visa exemption for citizens from these five European countries. The number of Spanish tourists rose by 10.7%, the figures of visitors from Germany and the UK increased by 4.5% and 3.9%, respectively.
The VNAT also reported that the number of domestic visitors maintains a positive growth and hit around 53.8 million in November.
The tourism sector gained 312,936 billion VND in the period, a rise of 5.2% against the same period last year. This positive figure shows a constant growth of the tourism industry’s turnover in recent months (2.7% in 8 months and 2.8% in nine months).
Experts attributed the strong growth in number of foreign arrivals and tourism revenue to the peak season, which will last through early 2016, the new visa exemption policy and recovery from two traditional markets including Russia and China.
A recovery in the numbers of Chinese and Russian tourists since September has augmented the overall foreign arrivals since these two countries are major markets of Vietnam’s tourism sector.
In addition, the buckwheat flower festival, other kinds of flowers in blossom in different regions as well as great efforts made by travel agents to promote domestic tourism have attracted numerous domestic visitors to the northeast and northwest.
The recent decision on visa exemptions for overseas Vietnamese is expected to attract more foreigners of Vietnamese origin, especially those in Europe and America.
