Hanoi and 19 southern cities and provinces are racing against time to vaccinate all residents with the first jabs before September 15.

More than half of the total 600,000 coronavirus infections have been recovered in Vietnam, according to the latest coronavirus news updated every day by the Ministry of Health.

Vietnam today saw 11,923 new cases that were mainly detected in the south where social distancing and lockdown rules are in effect.

Localities with the highest figures include Ho Chi Minh City 291,000 cases and more than 11,000 deaths, accounting for more nearly half of the country’s total infections and 73% of the national death toll; Binh Duong ranked second with respective 153,000 and 1,300; Dong Nai 33,000 and 391; Long An 27,000 and 327; and Tien Giang 11,000 and 319.

Hanoi, together with 19 southern cities and provinces, is imposing stricter social distancing while racing against time to vaccinate adult residents with the first jabs before September 15. It has relaxed restrictions in safe zones to resume economic activities.

Currently, different parts of the country are speeding up the vaccination. To date, more than 27 million doses have been administered, including 4.7 million people fully vaccinated.

Today, Ho Chi Minh City reported 188 deaths, the lowest for the past 20 days.

Donations

Today, Polish Ambassador to Vietnam Wojciech Gerwel handed over Poland-donated medical equipment worth nearly US$4 million to Vietnam.

Wojciech Gerwel said he was filled with admiration to see how bravely Vietnam fought against Covid-19. Despite the best efforts and perseverance, Vietnam today is a friend in need of help.

“I believe that the medical equipment we bring here today will help save many Vietnamese lives,” he said at the ceremony attended by Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son and Deputy Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc.

The batch of eight tons of medical equipment transported by Polish military aircraft came to Vietnam three weeks after Poland’s first Covid relief of 500,000 vaccine doses. The Central European country has also announced plans to secure the non-profit reselling of three million Covid-19 vaccine shots to Vietnam.

On the same day, Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Elsbeth Akkerman announced at the meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh that the Netherlands will donate Vietnam medical equipment worth VND43 billion ($1.8 million).

China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region offered medical supplies worth CNY62.55 million ($9.7 million) to support Vietnam’s Covid-19 fight in a ceremony held in Nanning on September 11.

During the ongoing Europe tour by Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue, the Government of Slovakia today donated Vietnam 100,000 AstraZeneca doses. Meanwhile, French NG Biotech presented one million rapid antigen test kits worth EUR5 million; Vietnam’s T&T Group gifted one million RT-PCR test kits worth EUR6 million.

In another move, T&T Group signed an agreement that Germany-based Gerbion GmbH & Co. KG will transfer its technology on producing RT-PCR Virella SARS-CoV-2 to Vietnam; and several deals on purchasing vaccine doses and test kits with foreign companies.
