Three core areas for Hanoi and Finland to expand cooperation

On Nov 6, Deputy Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Hung received Finnish delegation led by Vice Minister of Employment & Economic Petri Peltonen on their working trip to Hanoi.
At the reception, Vice Minister of Employment & Economic Petri Peltonen affirmed, Hanoi as Finland’s key partner among Asian cities with numerous commons in development priorities. He listed out three core areas for both sides to seek potential cooperation chance, including: clean water supply and management, renewable energy, smart city development.
Paying honor to receive the delegation, Deputy Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Hung agreed with suggestion from Petri Peltonen, pressing that Hanoi is in large demand of investment, human resource and high technology in the three areas above.

In detail, to meet the Hanoian’s significant demand of clean water, the municipal authority promptly, decisively manage as well as diversify the water resource. They head to apply the same criteria of clean water for the whole city and create purified water which can be “drank from tape”. Therefore, Hanoi aim to halt exploit water from underground source and start to solve river surface water into drinking water instead.
On energy area, Hanoi prepared the most favorable condition of policy as well as real estate for investors concerning the related projects. The city is calling investment in PPP method to establish 4-5 factories of solving sewage with capacity of 1000-2000 tons/day, which can be upgraded gradually to 4000-5000 tons/days.  All the sewage, garbage can be solved to generate electricity serving Hanoi residents.

Last but not least, smart city development lies among core target of Hanoi, which is implemented initially. The authority focuses on building data basement and administrative system of traffic, security, fire avoiding and fighter, rescue, environment observation etc.
 “The three areas mentioned are among the most potential which Hanoi encourages and facilitates all the oversea enterprises concerning, especially Finnish ones”, Deputy Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee pressed.
Being impressed with Hanoi master plans and visions, Finnish Vice Minister of Employment & Economic Petri Peltonen believes that both sides own much potential to keep discussing, exchanging experience and cooperate to find out mutual solution for improving people living. Also at the reception, representatives of Finnish enterprises on untold sectors such as renewable energy, clean technology, garbage solution, hydroelectricity etc. exchange their experience, expert knowledge and strong points to promote upcoming cooperation between Hanoi and Finnish regions, cities.  
In a related move, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on Nov 1 received Finnish Ambassador Kari Kahiluoto on occasion of his new term in Vietnam. Both sides agreed to facilitate and encourage bilateral enterprise community to expand cooperation. Chairman Chung wished Mr Kari Kahiluoto would play role as the positive connector and contribute to level up the relationship between Hanoi as well as Vietnam with Finland. The country has plan of giving 100 Terminalia trees to Hanoi city on Nov 25, with the aim to celebrate 100th anniversary of Finnish National Day and promote Finland-Vietnam relation. Hanoi People’s Committee approved the plan.
Finland and Vietnam established diplomatic relation in 1973. Experiencing more than 40 years of development, the relation has been continuously improved and levered up. From 1973 until 2015, Finland has assisted Vietnam with approximately 470 million euros, according to OECD statistics.Finland concentrates its support to Vietnam now on two sectors: 1) natural resources management and climate change and 2) knowledge society.
