The festival is taking place in Thanh Ha village in Hoi An ancient town, with the involvement of other traditional pottery villages from August 19 to 21.
The event is an opportunity for artisans to exchange experience and introduce their traditional pottery products. The highlight of this event is a film on Thanh Ha pottery that will offer visitors a glimpse of the craft village.
Accordingly, visitors have a chance to enjoy the products from Thanh Ha and other pottery villages such as Phu Lang (northern Bac Ninh province), Huong Canh (northern Vinh Phuc province), Phuoc Tich (central Thua Thien Hue province), and Bau Truc (south-central Ninh Thuan province).
In addition, the event also featured an art and fashion show called “Sounds of the Land” on the streets of the village, with terracotta costumes and accessories, and a pencil sketching workshop for children. A seminar will also be held on the conservation and development of traditional craft villages in the context of tourism development.
The festival is expected to contribute to promoting tourism in Hoi An and raising the profile of Thanh Ha Pottery as a new tourist destination.
The Thanh Ha Pottery Village is located by the Thu Bon river, Cam Ha ward in Quang Nam province, 3km to the west of the ancient quarter. The pottery village in Hoi An is a famous example in this type of establishment that aims at furthering tradition as well as employment.
The pottery village has a long historical legacy and it used to play an important role in the development of Hoi An ancient town. The products made by the villagers mainly serve the daily lives of the native people in the domestic market. The pottery products include bowls, jars, pots, animal shapes, in multiform and colors, and they are lighter than the same products in other places.
