The Communal House is dedicated to   Doan Thuong Dai Vuong and Princess Thu La, revered figures who made significant contributions to the people, the nation, the ancient capital of Thang Long, and Cong Bo Ward (now Thanh Cong Ward).

In recognition of their extraordinary contributions, King Ly Hue Tong (1194-1226) bestowed upon them numerous titles and honors. The two figures were then honored as the protectors of the village.

Over the centuries, the communal house received several imperial edicts of recognition from different dynasties. Most of these valuable documents have been lost to the ravages of time and historical upheavals, and only three decrees dating back to 1674 and several others remain.

The communal house has suffered extensive damage throughout its history. In 1947, it was burned down by French colonial forces. In 1950, it was rebuilt to its original design, only to be destroyed again by an accidental fire in 1975.

Thanks to contributions from local residents and benefactors, the communal house was rebuilt in 2000 for VND600 million (US$23,500).

In August 2024, the Hanoi People's Committee officially designated the Thanh Cong Communal House as a city-level historical site.

"The designation recognizes and celebrates the profound historical, cultural, architectural, and artistic values of the communal house, which has stood the test of time and contributed to the uniqueness of our community," said Ngo Ngoc Lam, Chairman of the Thanh Cong Ward People's Committee.

"We will do our best to preserve the communal house and turn it into an attractive destination for visitors, researchers, and explorers alike, contributing to the cultural and historical richness of Ba Dinh District and Thanh Cong Ward," the chairman said.
