Strengthening cooperation between Hanoi and Cambodian military zones

On September 21, the talks between the two military regions’ commands of Hanoi and Cambodia was held in Hanoi during the working visit of delegation of the Special Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Force led by its Commander General Prum Din, on the occasion of the 70th the traditional day of the capital armed forces (October 19, 1946 - 2016).

At the talks between Hanoi Capital High Command (HCHC) and Special Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Force, HCHC Commander Nguyen Doan Anh said that HCHC highly valued the visit of the Special Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Force, which contributes to strengthening the flourishing friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam in general and HCHC and Special Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Force in particular.

On the occasion, Commander Nguyen Doan Anh informed the Cambodian delegation about the development of HCHC over 70 years and the political and security situation, socio-economic development, defense and security of Hanoi in recent years.

Fos his part, General Prum Din expressed his sincere thanks for the warm welcome they received from the HCHC. He treasures Vietnam’s effective cooperation and valuable assistance to its past struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as in the cause of protection, construction, development of the country.

He also expressed wishes to further strengthen the friendship and co-operation between two military regions’ commands, contributing to stepping up the relations between the two countries.

** Also on September 21, a conference held to promote social-economic development and ensure security in the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia development triangle area. More than 60 officials from the defence and security committees of the legislative bodies of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia attended their third joint conference.

Speaking at the event, Do Ba Ty, Vice Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, stressed the position and importance of the development triangle area towards three countries. As the representative agencies of people, the National Assemblies of the three countries promoted and supported the government in each country in constructing and developing the economy in the area, helping reduce poverty and accelerating cultural and social development as well as ensuring security and order in the area. 

He recommended that the conference need to focus on discussing and exchanging experience on issues benefiting the area, and the building of a region of peace, friendship and development, thus contributing to the growth in each country. 

The conference heard reports from committees on social-economic development and foreign affairs in provinces in the development triangle area in the past years and the result of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed at the second conference in Champasak, Laos, in September 2015. 

According to Vietnam’s report, the country’s five provinces in the region – Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc – achieved an annual growth rate of nine percent and an income of 1,600 USD per capita in 2015. 

At the conference, participants reached agreement on many important issues such as the acceleration of planting border markers and strengthening the monitoring of border gates and promoting trade and tourism. They agreed to hold the conference in every two years. The next will take place in Cambodia in 2018.
