South Korean companies operating in Vietnam have again demonstrated their corporate social responsibility (CSR) by funding scholarships for Vietnamese students with good performances.
At the South Korean Entrepreneur CSR night in Hanoi on December 17, 58 Korean firms awarded 90 scholarships worth VND900 million (US$38,300) to 90 students proposed by the Ministries of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Industry and Trade, Planning and Investment, Foreign Affairs, and the Hanoi People’s Committee, among others.
Among the companies were Samsung Electronics Vietnam, LG Electronics Vietnam Hai Phong, Youngjin Vina, Everpia, Jahwa Vina, Lotte Vietnam, Power Logics Vina, Shinhan Bank Vietnam, and Woori Bank Vietnam.
Addressing the event, Ambassador of South Korea to Vietnam Kim Do-hyon urged Korean companies to ramp up their CSR efforts to contribute to Vietnam’s socio-economic development. He also pledged to work for more CSR activities in the Southeast Asian country.
Acknowledging that South Korea is the largest foreign investor in Vietnam with a large business community here, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Chung said Korean companies are participating in many social activities in Vietnam, which can be considered a seal of guarantee for sustainable development.
Commenced in 2015, the South Korean Entrepreneur CSR night is an annual event help by the Korea Chamber of Business (KorCham) Vietnam and the South Korean embassy in Vietnam.
KorCham, which represents over 7,300 Korean companies in Vietnam, plays an important role in boosting trade between Vietnam and South Korea and provides an updated information on the local market for its members.
