Hanoi Times - on Wednesday, the Ministry of Information and Communications delivered exam files to seven mobile phone service providers.
The seven competitors, MobiFone, VinaPhone, Viettel, EVN Telecom, SPT, Hanoi Telecom and GTel, will compete to receive four 3G service provision licenses.
They will have nearly three months to complete these exam files and have to submit the completed exam files to the Ministry of Information and Communications in early January 2009.
Pham Hong Hai, Chief of the Telecommunications Agency, under the Ministry of Information and Communications, said a board of examiners will consider the exam files within one month and present the results to the Prime Minister.

Exam files will have to pass two rounds: a short-list and a final round. Competitors have to meet conditions regarding coverage, network infrastructure, deposit, etc., otherwise they will be rejected immediately in the short-list round.
The four top files will enter the final round and the winners will be licensed in the second quarter of 2009.
3G is the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology, superseding 2.5G. It is based on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) family of standards under the IMT-2000[1]. |
