Speaking at the conference, Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Hang reviewed the historical period and Ngo Quyen’s merits, especially as the architect of the historic Bach Dang victory – the glorious landmark that ended over a thousand years of Chinese rule and ushered in the new era of an independent and self-governing feudal nation of Vietnam. After the victory, Ngo Quyen proclaimed himself as Kinh, set up the capital in Co Loa and reigned from 939 to 944. To pay tribute to the heroic King, who is regarded as the country’s renaissance patriarch, the Hanoi Party Committee and the Hanoi People's Committee have requested the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center to research documents pertaining to Ngo Quyen, set up the Ngo Quyen temple project, and develop the plan of organizing an annual festival commemorating his great merits in Co Loa.
In addition, Mr. Ngo Van Quy acknowledged that historical researchers and related agencies are still continuing the task of finding more documented evidence and studying more thoroughly about Ngo Quyen. As a result, recently a number of conferences on Ngo Quyen's background and career have been held, while many studies on Ngo Quyen and the Bach Dang victory have been published in specialized books and magazines, which relatively compiled results research results on Ngo Quyen conducted in recent years by the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center. The objectives of the "Ngo Quyen - the country’s renaissance patriarch" scientific conference, as stated by Mr. Ngo Van Quy, are to certify the documentation related to Ngo Quyen in general and the period when Ngo Quyen under the reign of Ngo Quyen , and to confirm Ngo Quyen's contributions by founding the Ngo dynasty in the national history.
Within the scope of the conference, the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center has displayed a series of billboards introducing the background and career of Ngo Quyen, the national hero, along with the activity of reviewing historical traditions and arousing pride in the nation's patriotism against foreign invaders for the current and future generations. In particular there are 3 main themes: “Homeland and clan – An overview of the historical land of Duong Lam, the background and clan of Ngo Quyen"; "Ngo Quyen – the country’s renaissance patriarch – Introduction of important milestones in the career of building the country, proclaiming himself as King, and setting up the capital in Co Loa"; "Immortal with the country – Introduction of the documentation recording the merits of King Ngo Quyen". These billboards are displayed at Thang Long Imperial Citadel from October 1st to October 6th, and then will be showcased at the Co Loa Relic Management Board (Co Loa Commune, Dong Anh District, Hanoi).
