Game industry set to take off in 2015
KTĐT - Along with the worldwide success of Flappy Bird, a 100 percent Vietnamese-created game, and new policies set up by watchdog agencies in 2014, the industry is set to develop strongly in 2015. 1.Flappy Bird, developed by Nguyen Ha Dong, a freelance coder in Hanoi, topped the Google Play and App Store lists of games, with the highest numbers of downloads in January 2014. Flappy Bird was one of the 10 most searched keywords on Google in 2014. Though Dong later pulled the game off app stores for several reasons, he has become well known all over the world. The success of Dong has a special significance because it encourages Vietnamese game developers who are still fumbling for the right way to follow. 2. FPT, the Vietnamese largest information technology group in Vietnam, unexpectedly dissolved FPT Online in late 2014, one of its subsidiaries, despite the great successes it gained with MU Online and Thien Long Bat Bo games. FPT Online was dissolved because it reportedly could not operate effectively any more. The event, in the eyes of analysts, showed how competitive the domestic game market is.

Vietnamese firms gear up for smarthome battle
KTĐT - BKAV, a large technology group in Vietnam, has said that “it is 10 years ahead of Microsoft, Google and Samsung” in terms of smarthomes. Lumi Vietnam has also jumped into the smarthome market. “The best known technology groups in the world like Microsoft, Google and Samsung have just joined the smarthome market, while we (BKAV) have been present in the field for nearly 10 years,” said Vu Thanh Thang, director of BKAV SmartHome, at a workshop on utilizing information technology (IT) achievements in the real life. Prior to that, BKAV’s managers many times stated at workshops and conferences that BKAV’s smarthome is the best product of this kind now available in the world. And they emphasized that this is a 100 percent Vietnamese made product which is “the most complete system in accordance with Gartner’s standards”. According to the market survey firm’s standards, most of the smarthome models marketed recently in the world belong to the Home Automation group. Meanwhile, the highest level of smarthome – Connected Home – will only develop strongly and become popular in several years. As Thang said, BKAV’s smarthome can meet Connected Home standards. This explains why BKAV says it is ahead of many other technology groups in the world in the smarthome sector. Also according to Thang, the BKAV’s smarthome solution can fix the problems existing in solutions provided by foreign firms – the complexity and the low systems’ software content – which does not adjust the systems to fit the users’ habits. The statements by BKAV’s managers have raised controversy. They have been harshly criticized on IT forums, where they are described as boasters. No one believes that such a high-technology product can be created by the Vietnamese. Meanwhile, BKAV has many formidable rivals who are globally known smartphone solution providers such as German company Siemens with its Synco system, Dutch-owned Philips with Dynalite system, French company Schneider Electric Wiser with Home Control and the US’s Leviton with HAI solution.
