Revenue of Vietnam's IT sector estimated to reach 42 billion USD in 2015

Information technology industry has become one of the national important economic sectors with the turnover is estimated to reach 42 billion USD in 2015, in which the added value worth 11 billion USD.
At the conference held by the Ministry of Information and Communication in Hanoi on December 10 to review the building Report on index for development and application of Vietnam's Information and Communications Technology (Vietnam ICT Index) during 2006-2015, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung said the development and application of ICT in Vietnam has gained remarkable achievements.

Only 31% of computers in ministries, agencies and less than 20% of computers in provinces connected to the Internet in 2006, but at present 100% of ministries, ministerial-level agencies, provinces, Central-owned cities has applied information technology (IT) in the management and operation as well as providing administrative services for citizens and businesses.
Many domestic enterprises have taken the lead in the application of IT in public administration services as well as production and trading activities to increase productivity and enhance competitiveness.
Vietnam was ranked by the United Nations at the 99th place in the world  (up 6 places from 2005) and the 5th in ASEAN development index of e-government in 2014.
The country was placed the 85th out of 143 countries in the index ready to connect by the World Economic Forum in 2015.
Despite these positive results, but the scale of Vietnam's IT enterprises is small, mainly dependent on FDI businesses and shortage of competitive products.
