Private firm “spying” on 14,000 mobile phone subscribers

The Hanoi Department of Information and Communications has recently discovered a private IT company spying on 14,140 mobile phone subscribers, using the Ptracker software.

Mr. Nguyen Van Minh – Chief Inspector of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications Hanoi – says that the Hanoi-based Viet Hong Company used the Ptracker software to track down the positions, incoming and outgoing messages, phone calls and the history of visited websites. It also adjusts the recording functions of 14,140 cell phones.

According to the official, Viet Hong sold Ptracker software to 670 clients, which were then installed on 14,140 cell phones in order to keep a close watch on these phone users.

At the time of inspection, the authorities found the data of 7,447 phone users on Viet Hong’s servers and detected that the data of 6,693 others were being deleted from this company’s servers.

The case is being investigated.
