Postage stamp on ASEAN’s 50th founding anniversary launched in Hanoi
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIT) and the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) have organized a ceremony to launch a set of postage stamps to mark the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8, 1967-2017).
Addressing the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of MoIT Nguyen Minh Hong highlighted the achievements that ASEAN has gained over the past a half century to become a strong and united community with rules-based operation and comprehensive and extensive connectivity across the fields, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
To increase cooperation in the field of postage stamps as well as promoting stamp collections, contributing to enhance public awareness of culture, history and life-style of the ASEAN community, the ASEAN member countries agreed to issue a common stamp every two years from 2017.
The stamp features a topic chosen by all member countries, with the logo “ASEAN Post” and the typical image of the issuance country.
In 2016, Vietnamese painter Tran The Vinh won the first place in the design contest that was used for the creation of the ASEAN Post logo.
The topic of “ASEAN Post” in 2017 is national flower. The stamp of Viet Nam features the lotus - the flower shows the culture, characteristics and spirit of the Vietnamese people, and symbolizes the beauty of Viet Nam.
