The Vietnamese Government is committed to providing further solutions to help businesses overcome current hardship, along with creating a fair and favorable environment for them to thrive.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed the view in a letter sent to the local business community on the occasion of the upcoming Vietnam Businessmen’s Day [October 13].

In his letter, Chinh said businesses not only in Vietnam but also all over the world are still facing severe impacts from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“With all ups and downs for nearly two years since the emergence of the pandemic, Vietnamese businesses have demonstrated their solidarity in keeping their operation running and responsibilities to the society,” Chinh added.

The prime minister also acknowledged the contribution and companionship of both domestic and foreign businesses for Vietnam’s economic development and also in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The Government will continue to create utmost favorable conditions for every company, regardless of their status, to do long-term business in the country,” he said.

In the coming time, Chinh expected more solutions to help businesses safely adapt to the pandemic so that they could speed up their recovery process.

In line with supporting policies, the Government will continue to address the pandemic risks, especially through the vaccination strategy, to keep a safe environment for normal life to soon return, he continued.

Chinh called for Government agencies to realize their commitments to push for administrative reform and address difficulties from businesses.

“There is a way out to every situation,” Chinh stressed while expressing his belief that the business community would continue to play a key role in Vietnam’s socio-economic sustainable development.

Businesses stand ready to aid Vietnam's recovery process

At the meeting held between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and representatives of the business community today [October 12], Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Pham Tan Cong said businesses hold high trust in the Government’s vision, especially the shift in Covid-19 strategy towards safe adaptation and effective control of the pandemic.

“The recovery process may last for years, and businesses are looking for long-term vision from the Government in drafting supporting measures,” Cong noted.

Cong expected the Government to soon announce an overall economic recovery plan, which would serve as a basis for localities and economic sectors to speed up their own recovery processes.

“The business community is ready to support the Government in this regard,” he said.

While acknowledging the road towards prosperity in 2045 remains challenging, the VCCI Chairman said the pandemic, however, is an opportunity for enterprises to raise their corporate governance and resilience against external shocks by embarking on digitalization and hiring the labor force in a more sustainable way.

Sharing Cong’s view, Chairwoman of Board of BRG Group Nguyen Thi Nga said the new strategy on Covid-19 safe adaptation is the right direction for economic recovery.

“The business community firmly stands by the Government side to contribute to the country’s development and also in the Covid-19 fight,” Nga noted.

Meanwhile, Chairman of CMC Group Nguyen Trung Chinh said technology and digital transformation would be the trend in the post-Covid-19 period.

According to Chinh, Vietnam is in a favorable condition to grasp this opportunity with a national strategy on digital transformation already in place and a strong community of over 50,000 IT firms.

“Many multinationals have selected Vietnam as their global hubs of digital services, including Samsung,” Chinh noted.

Chinh called for a speedy reopening of the economy for enterprises to soon recover. “Local IT firms are capable of working on major digital infrastructure projects and support the country’s growth,” he stated.

General Director of VinGroup Nguyen Viet Quang said despite the severe consequences of the pandemic, the business community is fully supportive of Government’s measures against the pandemic.

Quang noted VinGroup is pushing for the transfer of vaccine production technologies from the US to further contribute to Vietnam’s efforts in the Covid-19 fight.

Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneur Council (VWEC) Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh suggested Vietnam integrate sustainable development goals into national development strategies.

Minh cited the fact that the current socio-economic development strategy does not include the target of the number of women-led enterprises, or such a concept has not been mentioned in the Enterprises Law.

“The move, if realize, could lay the necessary framework for stronger efforts in promoting gender equality,” Minh said.

Minh also called for the Government to provide tailor-made support for women-led businesses, or economic sectors with a high number of female workers.
