PM Phuc’s first activities in Washington D.C.
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived in Washington D.C on May 30 (local time) where will discuss bilateral ties and regional cooperation with President Donald Trump. This is his first visit to the US since he took office in April last year. PM Phuc is the first ASEAN leader and the third Asia’s leader to visit the US since Mr. Donald Trump became President of the US.
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on May 30 held bilateral meetings with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, attended a seminar with the U.S. top businesses and delivered a speech at a welcome banquet organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. ASEAN Business Council in Washington D.C., the U.S.
At the meetings with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, the PM hailed the two nations’ cooperation in economics, trade and investment, affirming it as key force in the two countries’ bilateral relations, enhancing growth and creating jobs for both. Vietnam attaches importance to the economic, trade and investment cooperation with the U.S., willing to exchange measures to accelerate the economic relations for mutual benefits, said the PM, adding that Vietnam will facilitate the U.S. commodities to enter Vietnam’s market and continue improving its business environment.
The U.S. leaders confirmed that the U.S. attaches importance to the economic and trade relations with Viet Nam, welcoming Viet Nam to pursue the consistent policies on economic reform and international integration and facilitate U.S. enterprises to launch operation and investment in Vietnam. The U.S. side highly valued specific measures of the Vietnamese Government for issues of the U.S. businesses’ concerns, approving that the two sides need to ratify the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
Speaking at the seminar with the U.S. top corporations and businesses, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed the U.S. businesses to Vietnam. Vietnam is determined to renovating, enhancing international integration and realizing measures in line with trade balance standard, asserted the PM, adding that Vietnam regards the success of the U.S. businesses as the success of Vietnam.

The U.S. enterprises affirmed to accelerate the relations between the two nations, hailing the Vietnamese Government’s policies to create a fair and wealthy playground for foreign investors, including the U.S. ones. They applauded the two nations’ leaders to strengthen exchanges, confirming to strongly advocate the successful organization of APEC Vietnam 2017.
At the meeting with the World Bank's Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific Region Victoria Kwakwa, PM Nguyen XuanPhuc suggested the World Bank (WB) continue its assistance for Viet Nam in international sponsors and policy consultancy in economics and finance.
The WB’s Boards of Directors supports the Vietnamese Government’s measures to restructure the economy and promote growth over the recent years, affirming to assist the Vietnamese Government to gain set targets.
