The documents recount the historical background, the preparations for the campaign, how it developed, the results achieved, and the significance of the campaign.

A number of original documents and records about the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the 1954 Geneva Conference have been unveiled at Hanoi-based National Archives Center (NAC) III under the State Records and Archives Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

With these records, NAC III is coordinating with the National History Museum to organize exhibitions and publish books on the two historical events.

NAC III will also coordinate with the French Archives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Embassy on the organization of the exhibition "Vietnam-France: From Dien Bien Phu to Strategic Partnership."

The series of events aims to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-2024) and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Accords, which established a cease-fire in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, officially ending the First Indochina War in Vietnam.

According to Tran Viet Hoa, Director of National Archives Center III, they preserve a large number of records and documents related to the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the 1954 Geneva Conference. The documents are collected from state agencies, historical witnesses, and archival agencies in France and Russia.

Hoa said the documents reflected the skillful leadership and astute strategic decisions of the Party, Government, and President Ho Chi Minh, the united strength of the entire people and army determined to protect national independence, and the role of General Vo Nguyen Giap - General Commander of the Campaign.

The documents also provide perspectives on world public opinion toward the Indochina War and support from international friends of Vietnam.
