The visit will set the tone for activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2024.

Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and his wife will pay a State visit to Vietnam from November 1 to 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The visit comes at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his wife. It holds particular significance as it precedes the 70th-anniversary celebrations of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries (1954 to 2024).

President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh previously visited Vietnam in January 2010 while serving as the Secretary General of the Mongolian People's Party.

In May 2023, he met with President Vo Van Thuong in the United Kingdom during the coronation ceremony of King Charles III.

During his tenure as deputy prime minister and prime minister of Mongolia, President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh actively promoted the strengthening of the relationship between Mongolia and Vietnam, emphasizing the need for a new framework of cooperation.

The last state visit by a Mongolian president to Vietnam was in November 2013, underscoring the significance of this upcoming visit.

Vietnam and Mongolia share a longstanding history of friendly relations and have consistently provided mutual support and assistance since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties. Mongolia views Vietnam as a valuable partner in Southeast Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Due to logistical challenges, including geographic and transportation factors, economic and trade collaboration between Vietnam and Mongolia has remained at a relatively modest level.

As of November 2019, Mongolia had three investment projects in Vietnam, ranking 96th out of 126 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam, with a combined value of $1.1 million.

The bilateral trade volume between Vietnam and Mongolia has experienced significant growth, surging from $41.4 million in 2017 to over $85 million in 2022. In the first eight months of 2023, it reached approximately $75 million.

Both nations are actively working to diversify cooperation by capitalizing on their strengths, including Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products, consumer goods, and Mongolian beef and footwear products.

The upcoming visit by President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh is anticipated to strengthen the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Mongolia. Furthermore, it is expected to set the tone for activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2024.
