May 3: Vietnam reports one new coronavirus case, tally rises to 271

The newest case is an expert working for Vietnam Oil And Gas Group (PetroVietnam).

Vietnam on May 3 confirmed a fresh coronavirus case after nine days without new infections and 17 days having no community infection, taking the tally to 271.

The newest case is a British man, 37, an expert at Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam). He arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on April 28 on a private jet with 12 other experts who were all quarantined upon arrival.

All 13 experts have been tested and the infected expert was confirmed to be positive with the virus after two tests. He is now under treatment at Cu Chi Field Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Earlier, the man had tested positive for the virus on April 7 in the UK. He got no treatment but underwent home isolation. On April 21, he tested negative for the virus and was certified to be healthy before leaving for Vietnam.

So far, 219 out of the total infections have returned to normal health, but 14 of them have relapsed, according to the Ministry of Health. The country has reported no deaths.

The number of people undergoing quarantine reached 30,530, including 246 at hospitals, 5,748 at concentrated centers, and 24,192 at home and lodging facilities.
