MAY 11: Vietnam confirmed 71 more Covid-19 cases

Covid-19 has attacked industrial parks where accommodate foreign-invested plants.

Vietnam said its total Covid-19 caseload was added with 71 infections on May 11.

Bac Ninh confirmed the highest number with 34 cases, followed by Bac Giang 17 infections.

Since the virus resurgence on April 29, Vietnam has recorded 3,537 cases, including 528 over the past 12 days.

The two aforementioned provinces, where are about 50km and 80km from Hanoi, respectively, are home to a number of industrial parks, including Samsung and electronics contract manufacturer Foxconn, a major assembler of Apple products.

The northen provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, about 30-50km far from Hanoi, are among three hardest-hit localities with 119 and 64 cases, respectively.

For Bac Giang, the biggest source of infections is at South Korea-invested Shin Young Vietnam Co, Ltd in Van Trung Industrial Zone, Viet Yen District.

Given the detection of Indian variants on more patients, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long warned Vietnam of worse situation.

Accordingly, he stressed the importance of testing, mostly in industrial parks, factories, and lodging facilities.

Notably, health workers will carry out population-wide rapid antigen testing instead of antibody tests.
