On December 14, Hanoi Goethe Institute will hold a series activities for the Christmas season at Cua Bac Church, Hanoi.
First German style Christmas Market held in Hanoi.
First German style Christmas Market held in Hanoi.
The activities include a Christmas Concert and German Christmas Market to mark the 20th anniversary of the Goethe Institute in Vietnam. Escape from the big city stress, relax, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, savor Christmas scents, sample typical Christmas Market treats and beverages, buy hand-made items, and spend memorable moments with friends and family over a cup of hot wine.
As is customary in Germany, the Christmas Market will be located near a beautiful church – in front of Hanoi’s Cua Bac Church. With its clock tower and picturesque windows, it provides the perfect festive backdrop for the Christmas Market, whose sights, sounds and scents will allow visitors to experience Christmas with all their senses. As you stroll across the market, you can admire and purchase many special items for you and your loved ones, from typical ‘Stollen’ pastry to hand-crafted Vietnamese products.
To get you in the right mood, the Christmas Market will kick off with a highlight: a Christmas Concert performed by the Suc Song Moi Bamboo Ensemble, featuring classical music and international Christmas favorites to sing along to. The concert will be held at the market on December 14, 2017 at 6 pm.
In addition, with Christmas Concert, the concert will feature two pieces, Coronation Mass by Mozart and Orchestra Suite No3 by Bach, including his famous Air on the G String.
It will be performed by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra with a choir from Vietnam National Opera and Ballet, Hanoi Catholic Youth Choir and four soloists from Vietnam and Germany. Soprano Ha Pham Thang Long and baritone Vu Manh Dung are talented soloists with the opera, while German mezzo soprano Claire Gascoin and tenor Florian Sievers will debut in Vietnam.
According to Reverend Alphonsus Pham Hung, chaplain of International Catholics in Hanoi, some famous works of Mozart and Bach are composed for worship, but they have become part of human heritage.
This is the first time a Christmas Concert has been in a Catholic Church in Hanoi. It is our joy that the Coronation Mass and the Orchestra Suite No3 with carols will echo as Christmas is around the corner.  The Christmas Concert will begin at 8pm on December 21. Entry is by donation of VND100,000 (about US$5).
