Kim Jong Un to visit Vietnam next week

The North Korean leader is expected to tour several locations outside Hanoi that have become symbolic of Vietnam’s success story after more than three decades of opening up to the world economy.
The supreme leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong Un, will pay an official visit to Vietnam “in the coming days” where the leader will meet with US President Donald Trump for a second summit.

The visit will be made at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said in a statement.

The North Korean leader is expected to tour several locations outside Hanoi that have become symbolic of Vietnam’s success story after more than three decades of opening up to the world economy. A number of Vietnamese government officials have express willingness to show the country’s experiences in renovation.

Kim Jong Un, who doubles as chairman of the Central Military Commission and chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, will hold talks with President Trump in Hanoi on February 27-28 following their first face-to-face gathering in Singapore in June 2018.

It is yet unknown whether Kim will arrive in Vietnam by train or by air.  

Preparations for the summit are being made in Hanoi. Security has become a top priority of the event that making headlines worldwide. Some 2,600 international reporters have registered to come to Vietnam for the event.
