Hanoi Times – Students in information technology across the country will have a chance to take part in a competition called Golden Globe Awards, which was launched on November 8 in Hanoi.
The annual awards have been co-organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the Ministry of Science and Technology since 2003. Ten prizes of VND 10 million (US$ 625) will be granted to ten individuals aged below 35, who gain outstanding results or contribute to the Information Technology sector of Vietnam, including researchers, enterprises or lecturers.
Within the framework of the award, another forty prizes of VND 3 million (US$ 180) will be granted to female students who are in their third year or higher in universities or colleges concentrating IT.
Aimed at honouring young, outstanding individuals in IT, as well as encouraging youngsters to heighten their knowledge of IT, the awards are considered a vanguard activity to affirm the role of Vietnamese youth in developing the country’s IT sector.
“Information Technology is becoming more and more important in the development of our country, especially in the digital era”, said Pham Tan Cong, Director of Centre for Developing Science - Technology and Supporting Young Talents.
“We will need a generation who can understand and exploit information technology. The Communist Youth Union feels the need to act as a facilitator for the IT development among youngsters. The awards will be a bridge for us to carry out the policy.” Those who are awarded prizes will also have the chance to participate in activities at the 9th National Youth Union Festival, visiting Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park FPT Corporation.
The deadline for applications is November 25, and the award ceremony is planned to take place in mid December. More information about the competition can be found on the website.
