Hanoi Times - Five Internet service providers (ISPs) in Vietnam met the second time Wednesday in a workshop to sign an agreement on improving Internet quality under the witness of government officials.
The five ISPs, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Groups (VNPT), Viettel, EVN Telecom, Saigon Postel, and Netnam, yesterday attended a workshop held by the Ministry of Information and Communications in Hanoi to consider and contribute their opinions to the draft decree on Internet control, the substitute for the current one, Decree 55.
The new decree aims to develop the Internet market through simplifying administrative formalities. It allows companies of all forms to provide Internet service, not State-owned companies and those where the State holds the majority of shares, as stipulated by current regulations.
Companies that have ISP licenses only will have the right to offer Internet access, connection and application services, not all three licenses for each kind of service like now.
The draft decree will be published on the Ministry of Information and Communications web site for public view and comments before it is approved.
At the workshop, five ISPs signed an agreement on the establishment of the Vietnam Internet Association under the witness of leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The association will be set up to improve Internet service quality in Vietnam, create a favorable environment and promote Internet businesses in Vietnam.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Internet presence in Vietnam (November 29), ISPs will organize the 10th anniversary of Vietnam Internet ceremony.
