Int’l investigative journalism seminar held in Hanoi

More than 100 top investigative journalists and media managers from around the globe assembled in Hanoi on March 31 for a seminar focused on the latest tools and forensic techniques of the profession.
Assoc Prof. Dr. Truong Ngoc Nam, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication delivered a keynote address saying that the centre is emerging as the leading training centre in Vietnam and has as a focal task setting a standard curriculum and training program that is modern, practical and efficient.
Head of Ministry of Information and Communications’ Press Department Hoang Huu Luong said that the ministry has always realised the important role of investigative journalism in national modernization and industrialization process.
He voiced his support for strengthening efforts in training and developing investigative journalism in a modern and professional manner, saying that the seminar has made positive contributions to the modernisationof the country’s investigative journalism.
Danish ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen said that he has witnessed substantial improvement of the Vietnamese press over the past three years and believes the country is seeing the emergence of a whole new generation of enthusiastic reporters
However, he also underscored that Vietnamese correspondents need to be trained in accordance with international standards to keep pace with international integration.
He expressed his belief that the seminar is a new beginning for deeper and durable cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark in the field of journalism, especially as it relates to investigative journalism in Vietnam.
HCM City will host a similar event on April 2.
