International visitors to Vietnam surge 34.4 percent in August

Vietnam welcomed about 899,738 foreign investors in August, up 6.3 percent from July and 34.4 percent higher than the same period last year according to the Vietnam Administration of Tourism.
Vietnam is likely to record a third consecutive monthly rise in the number of foreign visitors this August thanks to favorable visa policy even though it's the monsoon season, the Vietnam Administration of Tourism reported.
The country received about 899,738 foreign investors in August, rising 6.3% against July and jumping 34.4% year on year.

In the month, foreign arrivals by air accounted for the majority with 779,000 visitors, or 86.6 percent, up 27.7 percent year-on-year.
The extension of visa exemptions for tourists from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy from July this year until June 2017 has also helped boost arrivals from these markets in August.
Several flights and thousands of tours to and from the affected areas were cancelled after Dianmu, the third typhoon of this year, hit northern Vietnam on August 19. 
In early August, the second typhoon, Nida, caused landslides and flash floods across northern Vietnam, stranding tourists in the popular mountainous town  of Sapa.

Vietnam welcomed about 6.5 million foreign visitors in January-August, a year on year increase of 25.4 percent, according to the National Administration of Tourism.
The tourism sector gained over 265 trillion VND (12 billion USD) in the period, up 22.5 percent against the same time in 2015.
There was a jump of arrivals from Hong Kong and China with a 92.8 percent and 57.9 percent increase, respectively. 
Vietnam's tourism witnessed a growth in the number of visitors from the Republic of Korea up 37.6 percent, Thailand 34.9 percent, Italia 31.8 percent, Spain 27.6 percent, Laos 26.6 percent, the New Zealand 26.4 percent, Russia 25 percent, and Sweden at 24.3 percent.
The number of domestic holiday-makers in the first eight months of this year was estimated at 43.1 million.
The country is expected to meet the target of attracting 8.5 million foreign visitors this year, according to the Vietnam Administration of Tourism.
In 2015, Vietnam received 7.94 million foreign tourists, slightly up 0.9% from 2014.
