International tourists to Hanoi rise over 39% after 6 months
According to the Hanoi Statistics Office, the number of international visitors staying overnight in the city in the first 6 months of 2016 reached more than 1.5 million arrivals, up 39.3% over the same period last year.
Hanoi city has so far this year received more than two million international visitors, a 34% surge year-on-year, according to the office.
The municipal tourism sector witnessed double the number of visitors from China and remarkable growth from other key markets, such as the Republic of Korea, Japan, Australia and the US.
The increasing trend has also been recorded from countries enjoying the visa exemption policy of Vietnam, namely France, German, Spain and Italy.
Foreign visitors coming for resort and tourist purposes were 1.286 million passengers, up 49% over the same period, for work reached on 189,000 arrivals, down 7%.
International visitors to Hanoi by air in the period accounted for the highest proportion, about 1.3 million passengers, up 40.7% over the same period and tourists coming to the city by sea and land was 204,000 arrivals, up 30.5% against the same period last year.
In January - June, Hanoi also welcomed nearly nine million domestic visitors, up 6% from the same period last year. The municipal tourism sector has generated 31.64 trillion VND (1.42 billion USD), a 25 percent year-on-year increase.
Beside upgrades made to tourism infrastructure, the city has paid attention to improving tourism quality and services while promoting its tourism potential at international markets.
The city also give its top priority to attracting investments for the tourism sector.
Hanoi was listed by the Lonely Planet, the world’s most popular travel guide book publisher, in the Top 10 best-value destinations for 2016.
The city was also named among the top 5 best cities for low-budget vacations in 2015 by DrPrem, a renowned travel and tourism website.
In June alone, international visitors to Hanoi was estimated at 199,000 passengers, down 15.3% over the previous month and up 46.2% over the same period in 2015.
The foreign tourists to Hanoi by air saw the greatest amount of 174,600 arrivals, an increase of 44.7% over the same period, by sea and land reached 24,400 passengers, up 57.6%. Domestic tourists coming to Hanoi reached 758,000 arrivals, up 0.5% from the previous month and up 5.3% over the same period last year.
In June, the city's tourism sector generated 4,530 billion VND, up 0.8% from the previous month and up 15.6% over the same period in 2015.
