Intellectual property strongly supports start-ups in Vietnam
Tuan Minh 17:33, 2018/12/20
The protection and efficient exploitation of intellectual property contributes to boosting the economy, enhancing the capacity and position of enterprises and scientific organizations to create products with great value, high competitiveness in domestic and foreign markets.
Start-up businesses would be more successful if they pay attention to intellectual property for any new solutions or ideas not seen in Vietnam.

Phan Ngan Son, deputy director general of the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP), made the statement at a symposium on intellectual property in start-ups and innovation on December 20.

Innovative start-ups have been thriving up in Vietnam, but the entrepreneurs only focus on business establishing procedures or finding investment sources. They actually  ignore intellectual property registration or are reluctant to do it, Son said.

He added that theshortage of intellectual property protection knowledgehas led to businesses “indifference” to the registration of intellectual property.

Therefore, it is very important to raise people’s awareness on intellectual property and innovation, especially about the role and coherence between innovation and intellectual property in student community and start-up businesses, Son stressed.

According to experts, intellectual property is increasingly playing an important role in socio-economic development. The value of intellectual property can be much greater than the value of tangible assets. The protection and efficient exploitation of intellectual property contributes to boosting the economy, enhancing the capacity and position of enterprises and scientific organizations to create products with great value, high competitiveness in domestic and foreign markets.

At present, the Ministry of Science and Technology has agreed to carry out a number of projects related to intensive intellectual property training, including the awareness raising project on innovation and intellectual property in student community and start-up businesses. If these projects are successfully implemented, the issue of intellectual property human resources will meet the actual demand.

Previously, the intellectual property development program for the period of 2016 - 2020 was approved by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in accordance with Decision No.1062 / QD-TTg dated June 14, 2016 to provide professional training in intellectual property for research institutes, universities and enterprises.
