Huong Pagoda receives around 50,000 visitors on the first day of festival

Huong Pagoda has received around 50,000 visitors on the first day of its festival (February 21), according to a report published by the Management Board of Huong Pagoda.

The Huong Pagoda festival officially opened on the morning of February 21 and runs until the end of the third lunar month. The Vice Chairman of the My Duc District People’s Committee and head of the organizing board of the festival, Nguyen Van Hau, says around 4,500 boats are prepared to sail visitors along Yen Stream to Huong Pagoda.
Huong Pagoda has received more than 170,000 visitors during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday. Last year, the pagoda festival received around 1.3 million visitors, including 7,800 foreigners, and is expected to welcome about 1.5 million visitors this year, according to the Management Board’s report.

Huong Pagoda festival is also famous for its Spring Festival which takes place during Tet (Lunar New Year). Thousands of visitors from all regions of the country as well as foreign tourists flock to Huong Pagoda to attend the festival starting on the 6th of the first lunar month and lasts for three lunar months.
Festival-goers come to visit the scenic Huong Pagoda and pray for happiness and prosperity for themselves and their family in the new year. On the way to Huong Pagoda, visitors will experience a journey on a local sampan boat on the idyllic Yen (Swallow) Stream from Duc Pier. During the trip, visitors can marvel at the magnificent lime-stone mountains on one side and rich, green rice paddy fields on the other.
After the boat trip, guests will climb the mountain in about 45 minutes and explore the holy caves. The path to Huong Tich winds its way through magnificently luxuriant landscapes.

There is also a cable car which takes only 15 minutes for those who do not want to climb. However, it is believed that climbing to the top of Huong Tich Mountain will bring fulfillment and great success in life. People usually bring a tray of votive offerings, fruits and food to present to Buddha who is worshipped at Huong Tich Cave.
Visiting pagodas and attending the Huong Pagoda Festival in particular have become a traditional Vietnamese custom at the beginning of the Lunar New Year.
